Paintings and Photography

My work spans two disciplines—fine art photography and oil painting—each rooted in close observation and a deep reverence for the natural world. Though they differ in subject and medium, both are driven by a desire to slow the viewer down and create space for quiet reflection.

My photography focuses on wildlife and landscapes, with a particular emphasis on Africa, where I’ve spent time documenting elephants, rhinos, and lions in their natural habitat. But my work also extends beyond the African continent—capturing the quiet resilience of animals and the atmosphere of wild places wherever they’re found. Working primarily in black and white, I use Nikon full-frame DSLRs and favor focal lengths between 35mm and 200mm to maintain a sense of intimacy and presence. The images are processed in Adobe Lightroom Classic with minimal alteration, allowing natural elements—light, texture, and gesture—to remain front and center. Final prints are produced on Canson Infinity Platine Fiber Rag paper for its rich tonal depth and archival quality.

My oil paintings take a different path. They explore a range of landscapes—both terrestrial and aquatic—as well as figurative subjects. These works are not direct translations of my photographs, but intuitive responses to mood, memory, light, and movement. Where photography demands patience and precision, painting allows for a looser, more expressive interpretation of form and space.

Together, these practices allow me to explore both the external world and the internal experience. Photography sharpens my eye; painting deepens my emotional vocabulary. Each feeds the other, and both reflect my enduring fascination with light, form, and the quiet beauty of the natural world.
